Doc DeMilly Memorial Reef
Located in 150 feet of water .25 mile east of the Pacific Reef Lighthouse, this 287 foot freighter was sunk in 1986. The ship remains mostly intact and is a multiple trip site if you want to explore all of the wreck. This is an advanced dive site due to depth and the ability to penetrate the wreck. Originally called Nuevo Rio, the wreck was renamed when it was sunk in 1986 for a local veterinarian who died. The unique thing about the sinking of this wreck is that it was done by the US Air Force during a mock attack to show damages sustained to ships during war. An advanced dive site with lots of large marine life. Because of its distance from Miami this site is not as heavily used and is more pristine. Really nice for underwater photography.
