Three Sisters
Three Sisters Springs gets its name from the three spring areas that help feed water flow into Crystal River in Citrus County, Florida. Three Sisters is a favorite natural warm-water refuge for the Florida Manatee seen between the months of November and March. Slightly hidden, the mouth of the Three Sisters run is blocked by concrete posts to prevent boat access. Upon first entering Three Sisters Springs you find yourself swimming a small canal surrounded by lush tropical foliage and crystal clear waters that quickly opens into a large water basin containing all three springs. The average depth is only about 7 feet with depths dropping to 15 feet at each of the three springs. Because of the constant water flow the visibility tends to stay excellent. Three Sisters Springs was also used by Jacques Cousteau to help rehabilitate "Sewer Sam," a manatee named after he became trapped in a Miami sewer system. They kept "Sewer Sam" in the spring until he was acclimated and then later joined other manatees along the Crystal River.
Notes: Good Snorkeling, requires boat to get to dive site.
