Blue Springs

Blue Springs

Blue Springs is definitely a crown jewel of the Florida State Parks.  Blue Springs is known for its manatee migrations during the months of November up until March.  The average depth in the run (river) is anywhere from 5 to 8 feet depending on the water table.  If you follow the run to its origin you will find a boil about 125 feet in diameter with a large crack in the center that drops down to 120 feet.  The crack itself is large enough for several divers to descend at one time.  On the way down, along the walls, are smaller caves that dead end and could be problems for divers trying to squeeze there way in.  There are no buried treasures in these tiny caves so we suggest avoiding them.  At 60 feet open water divers will see a sign warning them not to proceed any further.  The state allows caver divers with proper training and equipment to go the full depth.  We caution even our cave divers because when you get to the very bottom the flow of water from the spring is so strong it can take the mask right off a diver.  If you stay above 60 feet this is a good dive for an intermediate diver.

Notes: Florida State Park, Cavern, Good Snorkeling. Can not go below 60 feet without cave diving certification.
