South County Artificial Reef
Located in 45 feet of water, 11 miles from the Pass-A-Grille entry marker or 10 miles from the St. John’s Pass entry marker, this site has 2 reef systems developing. Site #1 has a round, white mooring buoy and is comprised of 700 tons of concrete debris, bridge pilings, and light poles. Site #2 has the Tug Orange – a 100 year old tug sunk in 2003. The two very different sites within this reef system attract a large variety of marine life. There is excellent visibility and the fish have become quite diver-friendly over the years. There is even a resident 6+ foot nurse shark living in the rubble. Barracuda, black sea bass, kingfish, jacks, Spanish mackerel and tropicals are abundant.
Notes: Mooring Buoys
