Tenneco Oil Rig (Pensacola)

Located in 175 feet of water about 22 miles S/SE of Pensacola Pass, this artificial reef is formed by 2 structures of about 500 tons each. Varying depths from 90 to 175 feet and excellent visibility make this a great advanced dive site especially useful for technical dive course training. Transported 275 miles on a barge, these rigs were donated by the Tenneco Oil Company as a part of the “Rigs to Reefs” program. This was the first site to use a complete oil rig platform in its structure. Because of its attractiveness to marine life, this is also a favorite site for spear fishermen looking for larger game fish, and due to depth and structure – it makes an excellent training tool for technical divers.
