Spirit of Miami
Located in waters from 82 to 110 feet, this is a unique wreck site. A Boeing 727 jet was sunk as part of the Key Biscayne Artificial Reef Site in 1993. She lies in two sections with the main body of the jet in 82 feet of water and the tail section in 110 feet of water. Not much left to see after numerous storms. Depths make this an intermediate/advanced dive spot. Instead of sinking with explosives like most vessels, this Boeing 727 was placed on the bottom using a crane. It was placed on the bottom intact, but several hard storms and Hurricane Andrew have demolished the site. There is still some pieces of fuselage to be seen, but for the most part it is destroyed. The one thing of interest left is a time capsule supposed to have been hidden somewhere in the wreckage and due to be opened in 2043 – or when a diver finds it – whichever happens first. Intermediate/advanced site.
