Lugano
Located in the shallow water of Long Reef, this 350 foot British steamer sank in 1913. Only the skeleton of the hull and a few rib beams are left. These are covered in coral and sponges and provide a great habitat for marine life. A nice novice dive or snorkeling spot and perfect for underwater photography. The Lugano was originally named the Navarro. While transporting goods and passengers from Liverpool to Havana the ship was caught in a storm and grounded on Long Reef, tearing a large hole in her side. Not much is left to see of the wreck except parts of hull and a few rib beams, but the variety of soft sponges, corals and tropical fish make this a popular dive site for the novice diver and snorkelers. 3 mooring buoys make it easy to tie off but be wary of strong currents and surges around the reef area.
