Marquesas Reef Line
Located about 25 miles west of Key West in waters ranging from 5 to 70 feet. The Marquesas Keys are 10 mangrove islands in shallow water 6 miles south of the Marquesas Keys. The area continues the Atlantic reef line running east to west. Watch for rip currents. This site was and may still be used by the US navy for bombing and strafing practice. Because it is so remote, divers often overnight here. There are caves in the continuation of the reef line and spear fishing here is great. There are usually large snapper and grouper in the area as well as soe large coral heads about 300 yards off the southern edge of the island group. Be aware of rip currents.
