Cayman Salvager

Located in 60-90 feet of water, 6 miles south of Key West; 1 mile SW of the Nine Foot Stake. This is an advanced level dive due to strong currents, the depth and the ability to access the inside of the wreck. This vessel was originally a Coast Guard vessel. She was seized in after being used to transport Cuban refugees during the 1979 Mariel boatlift. After seizure, she sank at the dock while moored. She was raised and was supposed to be sunk in 300 feet of water, but while being towed to the site, she once again sank and was left where she settled. She had already been stripped and cleaned to be part of an artificial reef and so there are areas where penetration is possible.
