French Reef

This site is designated as a Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA) which includes several caves and arches in the area. Great photography site with ledges, tunnels, caves, swim-through arches and a variety of corals, sponges and marine life. Buoys mark several well-known sites, like Hourglass Cave (50 feet from F1); Christmas Tree Cave (50 feet from F3); swim-through at F6; to mention a few. Christmas Tree Cave is known for its Christmas Tree Worms as well as eels and Grouper. Shallow to deep depths provide a great experience for all. Limestone cliffs, gullies and crevices provide protection for a large variety of marine life. Yellowtails, Portfish, Eels, Cooper Sweepers and Grunts frequent the area in large numbers. The White Sand Bottom Cave is part of this site and is the largest cave in the area. All items of special interest at this site will be marked by a buoy with “F” as part of its number.
