Carysfort Lighthouse
Located 6 miles off Key Largo, a part of the 4 mile long Carysfort Reef system with depths to 80 feet at the bottom of the wall there, this is an excellent site for diving as well as snorkeling closer to the lighthouse. This is one of the best reef systems in the Keys – lots of corals and marine life. One of the best developed reef systems in the Keys, this beautiful site has a wall of staghorn coral, several cannons, at least two large old anchors. Elkhorn, and Sheet corals are abundant and the marine life found in the area is spectacular. Great photography opportunities – a nice dive for all levels with the various depths in the area of the site. 13 mooring buoys surround the lighthouse, which, built in 1852 and reaching 112 feet in height, is the oldest functioning lighthouse of this type in the USA.
Notes: Mooring Buoys, Good Snorkeling
