Nine Mile Reef

Located approximately 10.5 nautical miles from the Mayport Jetties in depths around 75 feet sit several wrecks comprising this artificial reef. Open Sided Barge, Vics Barge, Asphalt Barge, a 52 foot steamer and a fishing boat have been added over the years. Great site for spear fishing as well as lobstering in season and finding some nice size flounder. Visibility ranks around 30 feet usually. The last vessel added to the reef was the fishing boat in 1988. Large Grouper, Flounder and Sheepshead make their homes among the wrecks and this is a great spear fishing site. Learn to spot a Flounder on the bottom and have it for dinner tonight! GPS coordinates for the site locate you on the Asphalt Barge, roughly the center of the reef system.
