Middle Ground

Located 13.5 nautical miles from the Mayport Jetties. At 85 feet sits several small reefs and 2 artificial reefs – one a steel tug covered with soft corals and sponges and the second a pyramid of fiberglass tubes with joined loops that form a great habitat for fish which in turn attract the larger fish. Although 85 feet is a stretch for the novice – with supervision it would be a great dive for them too. The unusual pyramid formation as an artificial reef was funded by the Japanese government as an experiment. Middle Ground has natural as well as artificial reef formations and an abundance of sea life live in and near the area which makes this a fun dive site.
