San Jose

Just one mile east of Little Conch Reef, this 40 cannon galleon also sank in 1733. The area still offers the chance to find treasure like gold and silver coins. This is a really nice site for photography. The ballast stones and old rib timbers as well as the keel of the boat are still visible, as well as sponges, coral and seafans, making for nice underwater photography opportunities. In 1973 $30,000 in gold and silver coins were found in a section of the ship that was finally exposed. Divers are allowed and encouraged to look for coins. The easiest way to find them is bring a stiff fan board with you to move the sand around. You might also find other types of artifacts while you are looking for coins.
