Herrera

Located in 18 feet of water off Upper Matecumbe Kay, this is another Spanish ship that went down in the hurricane of 1733. The seabed here is grassy and many relics are still being found at the site around the ballast rock piles – especially near the northeast area. Sometimes called the “Figurine Wreck” many small clay animal figurines have been found at the site as well as cannon balls, clay bowls, animal hides and pottery shards. If you do find something of interest and want to keep it, please be mindful that you must take immediate steps to preserve your find or it will soon crumble if it is a clay figurine or bowl.
