Alexander Barge / Artificial Reef
Located in 105 feet of water just west of the Eagle, this site is easily accessible and a great example of new coral reef formation. The 120 foot barge lies intact amid the rubble of the old Whale Harbor Bridge. Nice site for advanced SCUBA divers and certified wreck divers. In 1984 this barge was sunk to begin the formation of an artificial reef. A year later the rubble from the old Whale Harbor Bridge were added to further help the formation of an artificial reef system. The Alexander lies intact in 105 feet of water and marine life is abundant. Snapper, Grunts, Jacks, Porgies, Hogfish, Barracudas, Groupers and Lobster are often seen and the new formation of soft corals and the beginnings of hard corals is evident.
