Mohawk Chief / Sand Dollar Artificial Reef
Specially designed artificial reef with the 93 foot tugboat “Mohawk Chief” surrounded by six specially designed pre-fab concrete fish housing structures in a hexagonal pattern. In June of 2003 Okaloosa County and the cities of Destin and Valparaiso joined to create the Sand Dollar Artificial Reef Complex. The center of the reef is the tugboat – there are six additional reef structures about 800 feet apart surrounding the tug in a hexagonal shape. These specially designed artificial reef structure materials have both large and small fish environments. This is a nice chance to see both adults and juveniles of several fish species.
